Hello boys and girls and welcome to The Hamblogger. After almost 5 years of talking about it, we finally got off our asses and started writing and taking pictures of our burger exploits. The idea came to Josh and I one day in 2005 while covering the Michael Jackson molestation trial in Santa Maria, California. We spent many long days sitting in the parking lot of the county court alongside a gaggle of freaky MJ fans waiting to take pictures of the King of Pop flashing the peace sign from under his umbrella as he came in and out of the court.
Since our day consisted of about two and a half minutes of shooting, we spent most of our time playing stupid online video games, instant messaging each other from 5 feet away, talking about food and eating. Nearly every day of the five weeks I spent covering the trial (which paled in comparison to Josh, who covered it for 5 months) I had some form of beef at least once each day, sometimes twice. The cow was plentiful in Santa Maria and boy was it good.
When MJ was acquitted we cried tears of joy, bro-hugged and then went back to our pre-MJ lives in our respective cities. Josh moved to L.A. and then hit the open ocean for a semester at sea, sailing around the world twice. Lucky bastard. He later got into acting and did some bit parts on T.V. shows while waiting for freelance photo gigs to come in. He ended up being typecast as a terrorist. You’ve probably seen him in some of your favorite T.V. shows. I continued my ongoing photo documentary project on the fluctuation of gasoline prices and lead a failed campaign to launch a Twitter-like social networking and microblogging site for crystal meth addicts called “Tweeker.” It turns out that the target audience didn’t own computers or cell phones and if they did they had been taken apart during some intense three-day binge.
Josh and I would cross paths from time to time and over a burger would always say “dude, we should do that blog thingy that we talked about.” We’d always agree, have 3 or 4 more beers and forget about it. Feeling like we had failed, I made one last bid to Josh to bring The Hamblogger to life and here we are. To kick off our burger journey, we spent this past weekend at the We Care Holistic Health Centre in Palm Springs getting colonics to clean out our systems and make room for all the burgers we’re going to eat. Josh said he saw Paris Hilton, but I think he was just dreaming.
And so it begins. Are you ready for some burgers, photography and commentary? Coming to you from Los Angeles, San Francisco and wherever our travels take us, we’re stocked up on Pepto and ready to go.

Justin,
I’m in ! Burgers, fries and a Coke, no pepsi. Or better yet, chocolate shake. There’s a small place in Pleasant Hill called, “Burger Road”. Everything you need in a burger, sesame seed bun, quality MEAT and all the trimmings. I usually go, swiss cheese. Good size fries, cooked to perfection. Coke, and if I’m really hungry, chocolate shake. Your happy for around ten bucks. Cheers !
Bob
Can you gain weight just from looking? and drooling? How about the ABC (avocado, bacon, cheese) burger at LaFrite? Heaven, especially when you add caramelized onions. Sinful.
“The idea came to Josh and I one day in 2005 while covering the Michael Jackson molestation trial”
LOL… sold.
Congratulations on the new blog!
Adding you to the RSS feed right now!
Oh my goodness, I just stumbled across your blog, because someone visited ours via yours. First off – THANKS FOR LINKING! I’m doing it right back atcha this instant. Second of all – I am SO excited about this blog. I may be a little in love with it. Can’t wait to see all you do.
Shoot! You mean there’s more to life than $3 Mini Meals at McD’s? I’m going to have to get out more often and check these places out. No wonder Josh got us to attend a function at Five Guys Burgers in Carson. At least we know it’s Obama’s favorite food.
ummmmm……burgers……good……..right up there with floor pie.
love the site, the writing, and the pictures – very well done, sir.
am particularly intrigued with your long term photo project on the fluctuation of gas prices – what a novel idea!
keep at it and if you want contributions from the east coast lemme know!
Sheet fire! Bring it on baby! Oh Oh OH, uh. Put Saul’s Delicatessen in Berkeley for a burger trip. They have their own house-made pickles and their beef is so good you can order it rare. That’s right, rare. It’s thick, juicy and I rarely take the time to put it down it’s so good.
xo, Biggles
Do you accept reviews, and photos from amateurs, or are you exclusive? Just curious. Would love to contribute from the other coast.
After blogging about burgers for over 2 years, it’s nice to see we’re not the only ones that love a good burger! Great photos guys, we’re always caught without a camera when we rate a burger so we end up using phones, love your pics.
Let us know if you’re in Arizona.
Thanks guys. Keep an eye out for a lot more burger coverage from Arizona in the coming months.
